Pres. Biden: U.S. Prepared To Defend Taiwan In The Event Of "Unprecedented Attack" From China 2022/09/20
Last Thursday, the same day 60 Minutes spoke to President Joe Biden, Vladimir Putin met with China's leader, Xi Jinping. There's concern that Russia's war in Ukraine could inspire China to attack the island of Taiwan. U.S. policy since 1979 has been to recognize Taiwan as part of China, but remain silent on whether the U.S. military would defend the democratic government there. 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley asked Mr. Biden about that.

アメリカのバイデン大統領はCBSテレビの番組で、中国が台湾に侵攻した場合はアメリカ軍が台湾を守ると明言しました。

「（Q．米軍があの島【台湾】を守るのですか）はい、もし実際に前例のない攻撃があった場合はそうなる。（Q．確認ですが、ウクライナとは違って中国の侵攻があった場合は、米軍の兵士が台湾を守るんですね？）はい」
バイデン大統領は18日に放送されたCBSテレビの単独インタビューの中で、中国の武力侵攻があった場合はアメリカ軍が台湾を守ると明言しました。
同時に、「一つの中国」政策に同意していて、台湾の独立を奨励してはいないと話し、ホワイトハウスもインタビューの後、CBSテレビに対して「アメリカの政策に変更はない」と説明したということです。
バイデン大統領は今年5月に日本を訪れた際にも、台湾有事の対応について「軍事的な関与を行う用意がある」との考えを示しています。
